Course Works during the Great Wet

Wet Weather

Timely plant growth regulator applications to fine cut surfaces have reduced the need for regular mowing. Has been important when surfaces can’t have machinery on course due to the wet weather. Mowing once a week has allowed us the options of sending mowers out when the weather is fine and reduce timesheet interruptions. Rough has greened up following the non-selective herbicide application but growth hasn’t been severe. Again, allowing to mow when conducive to weather.

Preparation for Club Championships

Greens-

-Mowing twice a week and rolling 5-7 times (includes double roll)

– Septembers Air2g2 and Verti-draining of Greens has allowed consistent draining through the profile and recommencement of play during wet periods. Combining with a more frequent water penetrant chemical program, this has improved the profile and plant health.

Bunkers-

-Deeper tines on bunker rake machine. Smaller bunkers where machine can’t access are hand raked. Constant rain events creating firmer bases which require constant cultivation.

-Pumping water throughout the week. Amount of rain across the property backing up drainage networks making bunkers slower to dry out.

-Pushing sand back up on faces.

-Chemical treatment on faces has seen positive results.

-Edging of bunkers due to increased growth rate where plant regulator hasn’t been sprayed.

Treework-

-Contractors on-site to block up fallen tree on 2nd, limb on 5th and climb to remove a wedged branch on 7. Areas have been too wet for heavy machinery and will be taken away once weather fines up.

-Conducted root pruning of tree lines and borders on playing surfaces-Select Greens & Collars were sliced to reduce the tree roots impacting turf health.

-Engaged services of a contractor to begin chemical treatment in the waterways as part of Melbourne Water Grant-To be carried out as weather improves.

-Poa spraying on tees including practice tee.

– Fairways & Surround-Require dry leaf and no traffic to allow drying of chemical and no tracking onto Greens

-Irrigation repairs.
