Membership Committee Report February 2024
Last Thursday (Feb.19th) the Membership Team held their first meeting of the year. A full agenda provided plenty of opportunities for planning, review, discussion and ideas to be shared.
A review of the 125th celebrations was first on the agenda, with all agreeing that the night was a great success with over 200 in attendance. The organising and catering team were praised for their outstanding efforts with Sylvia and Jo and our GM Darren getting special mentions. It was felt that our award recipients were suitably recognised in the categories of Spirit of Keysborough and Service Awards. Also, it was thought it was appropriate that our Life Members, most of whom were in attendance, were recognised and praised for the very important part they have played at our Club. The challenge for the Club is to ensure that an evening of this type remains as a fixture on the KGS social calendar.

The item that created the most discussion surrounded the challenges faced by the Club in the management of our membership categories. Membership numbers are healthy across all categories, with significant waiting lists. Difficulties arise for those members opting to downgrade in categories already full and long waiting lists. It is important that those who choose more restricted membership options will not necessarily be able to return to full membership straight away. At the end of 2025, we expect an influx of full and intermediate members from the closing Cranbourne Golf Club. The management of their entry and our own very loyal and important members will be challenging. The long-term strength of the Club will always be our guiding principle.
Other business included discussion and plans around Junior Membership and how that might fit into the busy timesheet. The balance between opportunity, learning and access is one that is important for the Club’s future.
In General Business our Honorary Members were nominated for ratification by the Board. Those nominated are; Bob Spencer, Terry Pilkadaris, Jan Allatt and Rob Nagle. All worthy nominations.
Our next meeting will be held on April 19th so if you have any questions or wish to provide some feedback, don’t hesitate to contact any of the committee members below.
Mark Young, Jane Stanley, Sandy Ray, Chris Dickinson, John Peirce, Paul Arnts.
Staff: Darren Eckhardt, Christie Bell, Sylvia Bourne.
